Krishna Ella, chairman and managing director, said the patent rights for lysostaphin was a significant milestone in the company’s new therapeutic product development programme and would pave the way to develop products for regulated markets in addition to India. A pre-investigational new drug (IND) application meeting of the pre-clinical data has already been held with US FDA, he said. Lysostaphin is bactericidal and is indifferent to antibiotic resistance. This is the first biotech product molecule patent by an Indian company.
