Of the total earnings, Rs 27,631 crore came from the total goods transported (an increase of 5.84 per cent), while Rs 11,573 crore came from passenger traffic ( an increase of 7.61 per cent), a Railway Ministry official said. Revenue earnings from other sources amounted to Rs 1,115 crore during this period as compared to Rs 956 crore during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 16.60 per cent. The total number of passengers who bought tickets during the period was 3.6 billion, up from 3.5 billion — an increase of 4.50 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers who bought tickets was 1.8 billion and 1.7 billion respectively.
